Process Performance

Aligning process performance to organizational goals is the primary reason for undertaking process management practices. It has been said that, “if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.” This statement holds true and no business should invest time and resources to improve a process if they didn’t know what they had to measure to improve.

Many process improvement efforts tend to focus on one functional area, for example, manufacturing, without consideration for the enterprise context. There is nothing wrong with focusing efforts on functional process improvement and management provided that it can be linked to the overall cross functional process performance that drives enterprise level performance metrics.

Process Performance Indicators and Definitions must be made, These are:

1. Cost

2. Time

3. Capacity

4. Quality

Common Measurement Methods

1. Value Stream Mapping

2. Activity Based Costing

3. Statistical Methods to identify variation (Six Sigma)
